Artificial intelligence will help paleontologists and oilmen in the study of rocks

15.07.2024

The Advanced Petroleum Engineering School of the Higher School of Petroleum (PINSH VSHN) is developing innovative methods for paleontology and geology using artificial intelligence. The project is aimed at automating the identification of fossils and increasing the speed of processing geological data, which will have a significant impact on the oil and gas industry.

The Laboratory of Geology and Stratigraphy of sedimentary basins creates digital tools for automatic data processing and deep machine learning. New technologies will be used to identify fossils and analyze sedimentary rocks, including their mineral and chemical composition.

According to Yaroslav Trubin, head of the laboratory, the developed solutions will help micropaleontologists and geologists speed up data processing and improve research efficiency. These technologies are unique to Russia and neighboring countries and can significantly improve production processes in the field of hydrocarbon exploration.
